The timing could not be better. Fuck Sony
PC's become purposefully unaffordable, so all gamers have access to are these overpriced, spying, slave boxes that run exclusively on micro transactions and inflated priced digital media that we can't own.
Praise be upon the pirates.
I loved how jailbreaking a PS3 or a PSP made these consoles useful for many other things. Backing up my games (and others') was great, sure, but I could also add emulation, media servers, better save data management, more offline capabilities, remote control of other devices, backwards compatibility that Sony had disabled, and so much more. Jailbreaking a gaming console was the best way to keep it useful as long as possible. 👍
How’s that for diskless, Sony?
The only weird bit I see with this so far is it resets if the system powers off. I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on this though and hope for a more permanent solution.
Edit: well there we go: https://github.com/itsPLK/ps5-webkit-autoloader
The auto loader just makes it offline and automatically loads packages you select, you still have to run it every reboot
But a tethered jailbreak is nothing new. The real unfortunate bit is without a full hypervisor exploit you can’t run stuff like Linux. The older firmwares that were fully exploited were essentially solid gaming pcs that could run steam bc of this
That said it’s really a minor issue. The jailbreak process takes a few seconds, it’s really not a burden. It’s not like you have to reinstall everything every time. Apparently sometimes it can fail but I’ve done it a few times now and it’s very painless
This works extremely well so far. Emulation is even pretty well with retro arch that has a bunch of cores ported (including dolphin for Wii/gc and pcsx2), pcsx3, and a switch emulator that all still need work but can run games
Loading games is simple although the compressed fpkg format is not yet supported. It supposedly is already done privately but the devs are waiting on Sony to patch the bug related to it before release. Downloading games is miserable too, torrents are hard to find and a lot of them are hosted on download sites. Nothing like downloading 100gb from a sketchy site that’s capped at 100mbit, but hopefully that expands a bit now that basically every ps5 that wasn’t updated in the past week is moddable
It will be interesting to see what drops after gta6. As of right now the entire library can run as long as you’re on 13.60 but before this there were some games with issues because back porting games to lower firmware is a bit messy. Pretty sure that’s why the one dev who exited the scene when the hypervisor exploit was reported was holding on to it, they wanted to time it for gta6 release. There’s rumors that there is another hyper visor exploit that isn’t released though
Fucking fuckers ahahahaha
It's time to give Sony $700 or whatever it costs now
No reason to give it to them when you could buy used or refurbished
Get an aftermarket one for $400. Or find a broken one for even cheaper and repair it.
Instead of eating from McDonald's, eat from a trashcan
The fuck did used things do to you?
Probably a troll. That isn't a normal opinion to have about used hardware. Especially in this day and age.
?
Get the digital edition no need to get the physical if you're gonna jailbreak it.
Technically they do and Sony caused the problem in the first place and the only way they can fix it is provide better service than they do now.
Which presupposes the existence of anything worth pirating
Ghost of Yotei, Saros. Astrobot, Gran Turismo 7, Demon Souls remake.
Upcoming titles: God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, God of War trilogy remake
The whole reason Sony stopped its PC releases is because they were butthurt PC sales blew console sales out the water. People want Sony titles, we just don't want to spend 600$ just to play them when we have a perfectly good machine (with some people having even better machines) already that isn't ecosystem locked.
Ghost of Yotei was the one that got me pissed off at Sony. I've bought multiple of the ported games and GoY was next in line until they raised the wall around their garden again. That said, the total of games I wanted from PS4+5 aren't enough to warrant buying a console, not at the original price and even less after the increases.
Same. I was going to get that one, but now I'm not
Heck, I bought Horizon: Zero Dawn for PS4, and then bought it again on Steam where I actually beat it. They got more money out of me because they released it for PC.
Of course, then I skipped the console release of Forbidden West and just bought it on Steam when it showed up a year later...
(Bloodborne PC port when)
That said, I'm probably not buying a PS5, even if Astro Bot does look ridiculously fun. I'm also side-eyeing the Switch 2, although Metroid: Ravenous might get me.
Bloodborne can already be completely in an emulator, by the way. Runs and looks better than on PS4, which is not saying much, but still. If you have a decent system (I'm assuming you do, given your purchase of recent AAA games), go for it.
but it won't have the messageeeesssss :<
Don't count on it. All those are going to require 14.0+ which Jordy ratted to Sony a precious Hypervisor exploit the scene was likely going to use to dump these games
Nah, still not worth it.
Usually people who game on PS5 don't just exclusively play the exclusive title, so any game i guess?
I saw quite a few people in the YouTube comments getting stuck at
elfdir is listening on port 9021, anyone know how to fix that?Well, no one really owns anything so what's the problem?
I just need to feed my llm, it’s not for me
"I just asked chatGPT to look for discount games and I later had them on my PS5. I think it hacked my PS5 officer. Are you going to prosecute chatGPT? That would be crazy..."
Good. Let them burn in the dumpster fire they themselves lit ablaze
This could be use to install linux on it? Or is only to play ps5 backups?
"If buying isn't owning..." et al, yep. 🤷🏼♂️
What about jailbreaking a PS4?
Apparently all the ps5s in stores currently are on eligible firmware. Still if you have a PC there's basically only 4 exclusives you can't play (yet)
havent updated mine in a while and was thinking of selling it
just went up in value lol
