It's been a non-stop inflation show for six years and they can't figure out why people want to buy shit before they can no longer afford those things due to the rapid inflation?

I spent more than I wanted to and should have on PC parts in the last year... But waiting risked the prices going even higher and becoming more unaffordable (which yes fucking happened with the items I got which are now MUCH more expensive than they already were).

Like the idea that they can't put together a strong economy comes from the poorest scrambling to get their before their last chance to do so dries up.

We all know this is unsustainable and collapse is inevitably coming. Why wouldn't we be spending now to prepare for the collapse?

It all goes back to wealth disparity. the amount out there keeps pushing up what prices should be but its not in the hands for regular folk. musk could buy all the wheat produced this year and still be the richest man in the world.

Yeah. I finally got around to upgrading everything in my desktop this past year (rx 9070xt, ryzen laptop chip mobo combo with 16c/32t, 48gb of ram, and dual Samsung 990 pro 4tbs), and I did a quick price check recently, and my $1500 was now closer to $2.5-3k. It honestly amazes me how much it has gone up in the last year. Bonus points, I got some 18tb recertified drives for off-site at the same time for $250 a piece, now the same seller is offering them for $550 and still seems to be going up in price.

    It takes data?

  • zabadoh1

But what are they spending it on?

There's such a thing as shopping therapy for useless and speculative items, like Pokemon cards and Trader Joes bags, and also spending on numbing substances like alcohol and drugs are more indicative of an unhealthy social structure.

Maybe if we didn’t have such a lunatic in charge we wouldn’t feel so glum.

Maybe if we didn’t have all these companies that continue to swallow smaller companies only to lay off the staff they just acquired for “profits go up” we wouldn’t feel so glum.

Maybe if companies weren’t telling us that a computer is going to actually replace us this time, or maybe sometime in the near future so don’t get comfortable where you are we wouldn’t be so glum.

Maybe if the minimum wage could actually let someone comfortably rent an apartment without having to worry about going homeless we wouldn’t e so glum.

Maybe if we didn’t have to have our healthcare tied to our employer, so we could follow our passion projects instead of selling our souls to the biggest business in your area we wouldn’t be so glum.

Maybe if the planet wasn’t actively trying to kill us because we’ve actively been ignoring scientists who have said the climate change is real we wouldn’t be so glum.

Maybe if we invested in the culture of our cities instead of focusing on making cars go through our towns even faster we wouldn’t be so glum.

But idk, maybe I’m just a doomer.

Maybe if we werent being tracked wherever we go.

Maybe if our women family members werent having their rights stripped away by religious morons.

Maybe if our trans communities werent being placed in danger.

Maybe if Americans werent being shot dead in the street by federal agents.

Maybe if our government was doing things For us instead of To us.

I'd to hear your plan. I'm sure it is incredibly well thought out and contends with material conditions most people live under in the country well.

Still waiting for you to post something insightful or valuable. I'll keep waiting!

Did you miss where I pointed out you can't even do a strike?

Even then, I'm not here to help you.
You're all guilty and I will be glad your cancer country is gone.
                You're all complicit.
Don't you have a cool antifa t-shirt for just the proper occasion and a sign with an edgy slogan?

                • 🇵🇸antifa_ceo3

How do you suggest we make a national strike happen? Surely if it was so easy to do we would have done it right?

I don't deny that being a member of this country makes me complicit in much of it's crimes, but that is also why like half of my waking existence is focused on organizing, agitating, and educating the masses in my area.

I think it's really funny you think you can assume so much about a person by a silly username they have on Lemmy.

Since the pandemic, the economy and jobs market have recovered

Lie from the jump. The whole article is a lie, unless you're the upper arm of the k.

    Gell-Mann amnesia, indeed.

    • bedwyr7

They've corrupted how these numbers are counted decades back multiple times. You can't believe them, not at face value although they may still hold some information to divine the actual situation.

IE, the inflation rate is the prime example, understated for 50 years now giving us a pay cut every year. But look at UI, it only counts people collecting unemployment insurance.

And this was all before these geriatric clown masters got in there.

        Chocolate rations are up!

  • djsoren196via usa@lemmy.ml

Do they think we can just...stop buying things? Boy I sure have tried but unfortunately I still need to eat food, still need to pay rent, and still need to wear clothes. Maybe if I can ascend from my fleshy form to a higher level of being I'll get to stop spending money, but unfortunately as is I have no choice if I want to survive.
